A juxtaposition of hi-tech and traditional elements in a conceptual hotel for millennial travellers

The Oooyan Hotel is a newly established conceptual hotel that is envisioned as a communal hub for millennials. Its bespoke and crafted user experience caters to a demographic of travellers who appreciate casual dining, leisure, entertainment, art and cultural exchange.

Within the hotel, a play of hi-tech and traditional occurs. Chengdu’s rich well of culture, layers of history and multitudes of textures are subtly woven into the interiors, with modular arrangements and vertical structures recurring throughout. Inspired by Chinese craftsmanship, wooden structures are implemented throughout to feature a juxtaposition of the organic versus linear. What would have been a simple staircase connected to the all day dining and co-working lounge on level 2 was celebrated as a series of functional boxes interlocking with one another to support the vertical connection that passes through it.
