A hotel designed around the muse of a Botanist, inspiring a curated garden experience which meets a laboratory of herbs

The Sanya Boutique Hotel is the first of a new luxury brand commissioned by one of China’s up and coming 2nd generation developers. Its mission statement is to create new and exciting experiences which reveal our obsessions.

The co-development with the adjacent Waldorf Astoria Hotel occupies over 290,000 square metres and will bring a dynamic series of Residential, Hotel, Food and Beverage, Leisure, Entertainment, Art and Culture to the shoreline of Sanya. All of these are encapsulated and represented by the Botanist, our muse creating a curated garden experience which meets a laboratory of herbs – the spirit of which celebrates the art of Nature and all its creations.

The Kinetik Flower Garden, serves as a key feature of the hotel: A virtual skylight connects the Reception Lobby to Level 1. The changing colour and light intensities simulate a day & night cycle, creating a spectacle for guests to watch. The Kinetik flowers respond to the light by opening and closing their petals.

Inspired by the healing property of nature – the design of the Spa Tunnel derives its inspiration from the Botanist Lab, breathing life into space as one embarks on a scent journey informed by the stimuli.

As part of the experiential platforms, the produce of the garden shapes the foundation for the laboratory of herbs, creating a magnitude of flavours and scents that indulge the guest’s senses. These are manifested in several ways in the guestrooms: A niche dedicated to pampering, the implementation of the herb of the day as well as a signature drink pedestal, all of which celebrate the art of the Botanist’s crazy lab.
